SOCAP’s ‘best dressed’ choose substance and style

At this year’s SOCAP gathering in San Francisco, attendees were asked to bring their authentic selves to the annual impact investing conference. That extended to their sartorial style.

ImpactAlpha again fanned out across the hallways and gardens to spot some of the coolest fits, on the theory that their outfits reflect their leadership and their optimism (thank you, Nicole Lasasso and Lindsay Smalling for helping us scout!).

We asked SOCAP’s Best Dressed what they are most excited about now and for their future. Here are some of the thoughts they shared with us.

Jennifer Harper, Founder and CEO, Cheekbone Beauty Cosmetics.

Driven by her desire to expand Indigenous representation and wisdom and give kids the ability to dream because they see themselves in successful people.

Kimayah Barnett, SOCAP, Marketplace and volunteer coordinator

Invigorated by the number of solution-driven opportunities represented at this year’s event. Learning about biomimicry and how she can incorporate those principles into her dance practice and her love for nature.

Celena Aponte, VP of Strategy and Development, Nasdaq Entrepreneurship Center

She is thrilled to have a chance to explore how to better deploy employee ownership and liquidity models for small businesses as a tool to increase intergenerational wealth.

Sofia Candano, Communications and Branding Director, VilCap

Is excited to see the narrative shift away from rapid returns to the recognition of the need and importance of patient capital and alternative funding structures to back truly powerful entrepreneurs.

Andy Riemer, Principal Consultant, SidePorch

Finds excitement in engaging with people to solve some of our times’ more critical issues, such as mental health and the climate crisis. Energized by their drive and passion for solutions.

Maya Horgan-Famodu, Founder and Partner, Ingressive Capital

All in for building relationships and nurturing existing ones.

Ada Osakwe, Founder, Agrolay

Excited about the connections made at SOCAP and ready to lead with more intentionality to maximize the impact of these connections to improve the lives of people, especially in Africa.

Meriko Kawashima (at left), co-founder, Game the System

Driven by authentically creating transformation for people by making, acquiring and developing games that address social issues and encourage transformation within systems that need to be reimagined.

La Shaunn Spivey-Angeletti, Event Producer, A Time For Change

“Most excited about experiencing a mindset shift,  I think as much as I have my mind set on my organization scaling I think I was still seeing it too small.. and it is way bigger than what I was allowing myself to see.”

Katie Macc, CEO, Sorenson Impact Institute

Excited to participate in mind-stretching exercises that take her outside of her comfort zone. Listening to people with dramatically different lived experiences helps her broaden her understanding of impact.

ImpactAlpha’s Zuleyma Bebell has two styles and there is no in-between. She is rocking the coolest outfit – or looks like she got dressed in the dark.
