Recent Impact deals in Africa:

Clean energy. The International Finance Corp. proposed a $40 million investment in Cygnum Capital’s Facility for Energy Inclusion, a debt fund supporting solar home systems, minigrids, and commercial renewable energy installations across Africa… Cape Town-based clean energy investor Inspired Evolution, which clinched $238 million last year for energy transition projects in Africa, invested $40 million in CrossBoundary Energy… Africa Finance Corporation invested €43 million in the Poro Power Green Bond to finance a 66-megawatt solar plant in Côte d’Ivoire… Lightrock closed its Accelerate7 fund at $500 million to invest in growth-stage clean energy and mobility companies in Asia and Africa.

Clean mobility. Nigeria-based electric mobility platform Metro Africa Xpress secured $8 million in debt from Netherlands-based impact investment manager Triple Jump to expand its electric vehicle fleet and battery swap infrastructure across Nigeria, Ghana, and Cameroon… Ethiopia-based e-mobility startup Dodai raised $13 million in a Series A — including from British International Investment — to scale electric motorbikes and battery swapping in Addis Ababa.

Education. Rwanda-based Chancen International raised $29 million for its Future of Work Fund, which finances income-share agreements for university and vocational students in Rwanda, Kenya, Ghana, and South Africa. LPs include the SDG Outcomes Fund, UBS Optimus Foundation, and Ceniarth.

Financial inclusion. Pan-African fund manager AfricInvest’s Financial Inclusion Vehicle led a growth round in pan-African debt resolution platform BFREE, alongside Algebra Ventures… Rwanda Social Security Board anchored the first close of Enko Capital’s $100 million Rwanda SME Growth Fund with a $30 million commitmen… The International Finance Corp. and Standard Chartered rotlled out a $300 million supply chain financing facility across eight African markets… Nigeria-based Sabou Capital landed an anchor from the Mastercard Foundation Africa Growth Fund to invest in agriculture, renewable energy, supply chain, and logistics in Central and West Africa.

Health. South Africa-based AI Diagnostics raised $5.2 million, led by Steele Foundation for Hope, to scale Ostium, an AI-powered digital stethoscope for tuberculosis detection… Amethis, Proparco, and Ccap.ai acquired South Africa-based Vertice MedTech, a digital healthcare developer and medical equipment supplier… AI-powered digital health platform Mobile-health Network Solutions signed a non-binding $119 million framework with Hector Capital to acquire digital health platform BIMA and healthcare technology firm M&M Helix… Cape Town-based biotech venture studio OneBio raised $6 million in the first close of its second fund, targeting $18 million by mid-2027… Village Capital’s Africa Ecosystem Catalysts Facility deployed $200,000 into Ghana-based Rivia Clinics, a tech-enabled primary healthcare startup.

Agriculture. Nairobi-based Apollo Agriculture raised $2.5 million through Africa’s first agriculture securitization, selling pooled smallholder farmer loans to Netherlands-based blended finance fund IDH Farmfit Fund.

Nature. The World Bank directed $25 million from an outcomes-based bond — alongside $66 million from Mirova, GenZero, Rubicon Carbon, and Bregal Sphere — to support a 124,000-acre spekboom restoration project in South Africa’s Eastern Cape, managed by Singapore-based Imperative.

Infrastructure.
