About this Role

Democracy Fund is seeking a Senior Program Officer to lead in grantmaking and managing relationships with key partners. This role is central to the Reimagine and Rebuild program, which is aimed at creating pathways towards a more inclusive, multi-racial democracy. The Senior Program Officer will collaborate closely with other members of Democracy Fund, its voice partner, donors, and grantees to build strategies, execute high-quality grantmaking, and lead learning initiatives that align with broader organizational goals. As part of the hybrid work model, while it is preferred for candidates to be in the Washington, D.C. area, exceptional candidates residing in other states where Democracy Fund maintains operations may also be considered. The successful applicant will be instrumental in developing networks within the pro-democracy movement, facilitate increased visibility for grantees and build collaborative relationships that drive Democracy Fund’s mission forward.

Responsibilities

  • Execute and ensure high-quality grantmaking to drive progress towards program goals.
  • Lead grant development and manage individual grants through the grantmaking process.
  • Develop and manage strong and healthy grantee engagement and relationships.
  • Drive network building through grantee support and field activities.
  • Manage philanthropic partnership activities and contribute to effective team processes.
  • Support the creation of communications materials about grantees and for external audiences.

Requirements

  • A passion for strengthening American democracy.
  • A deep commitment to racial equity and justice.
  • A minimum of 8 years of experience working in pro-democracy systems.
  • Significant professional experience in related fields like community-centered media policy or national media reform.
  • Proven track record of successful project management and working across diverse teams.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
