About this Role
The Just Transition Coordinator at UPROSE is dedicated to fostering equitable access to sustainable energy resources within marginalized communities. This role involves a dynamic mix of policy advocacy, community engagement, and program management, aimed at advancing the principles of a just transition in the energy sector. The Coordinator is responsible for critical initiatives that drive community-focused clean energy and economic opportunities. This full-time position entails active participation in community planning, as well as coordination with partners to build accessible career pathways in the clean energy economy.
Responsibilities
- Coordinate development of the Just Transition Initiative (JTI) for local residents interested in clean energy economy careers.
- Supervise UPROSE staff assigned to the JTI.
- Collaborate with partners to build accessible clean energy economy career pathways, including offshore wind, building retrofits, solar, and climate-related manufacturing.
- Establish a referral network of support, education, and training for local residents interested in clean energy careers.
- Coordinate the development of a Clean Energy Economy Resource Database for the JTI with support from partners and UPROSE team members, and manage updates to the database.
- Advocate and incorporate Just Transition principles into clean energy workforce development and trainings.
- Engage in community-based planning efforts to identify and support local community priorities for green jobs.
- Support community education workshops around local renewable energy project benefits and opportunities, Energy Democracy, and Just Transition.
- Represent the organization at meetings with partners and stakeholders and on coalition calls.
- Contribute to grant-writing as needed.
- Report directly to the Executive Director.
Requirements
- Demonstrated commitment to working for environmental, social, and climate justice.
- Minimum of 3-5 years professional experience relevant to workforce development, community engagement, and coalition building.
- Ability to work independently and in a collaborative team-setting.
- Outstanding personal organization, time management, attention to detail, and the ability to multitask.
- Basic knowledge and experience in basic database management.
